DAY 5

ppfffft, nothing a calgon bath and pedicure couldn't handle! My ulcer pain has subsided, I haven't morphed into bridezilla, my nails are growing strong, my stomach is plump and happily beating a second heart, my toddler just might be able to handle her flower girl duties, my to-be-husband is getting 500 million brownie points for taking care of me and not freaking out last weekend, and my oh my - the list is getting shorter!

how's that for an update?! i am now really officially looking forward to my wedding this weekend and the honeymoon to france and spain that follows! the excitement is starting to kick in!

DAY 6

Well, there is a perfectly good excuse for missing yesterday. I went to the hospital for all the stress and ulcer pain. Sounds a little dramatic, but I was really in that much pain.

All of this means a weekend of not accomplishing anything. And the meds keep me dizzy and tired.

DAY 9

I made it! 2 whole days of regular postings! Impressive! I thought I would have already failed.
Another trip to Past Era, a fine antique jewelry boutique, has proved to be an asset. The fiance's first trip there delivered the beauitful filigree you see in the picture. Now, we found an Edwardian piece (1901-1915) that is so well made and such a great fit with my ring! He was right, they really make that part of the affair more special the probably any jeweler. Lovely ladies work there, and they know everything you need to know about fine antique jewelry.

Tonight is a very important night for a bride: the first gown fitting. To make it even more special I am taking Kiran along. She will get to show off her cuteness in her Wowee Girl (flower) dress to make sure she has grown into it correctly. And Bridesmaid #1, Jackie, has also agreed to furnish her outward and valiant judgement for me! If I can trust anyone to tell me the truth it's Jackie. But I guess in a way, I have my emotions fully guarded for this:
If she tells me I look fat - Hey, I'm pregnant!
If she tells me my skin is just looking a little flushed in contrast to the dress - Hey, I'm pregnant!
If she tells me my ankles look a little swollen - Hey, I'm pregnant!
If she tells my my hair is dried out, I need a treatment - Hey, I'm pregnant!

In light of all that, I guess I should look foward to this day. I have the prime excuse for not looking perfect on my wedding day! There really is a reason for all these things going on with me! I'm usually rather perfect!!!!

Pictures of the Corset backside she's doing to come soon!

DAY 10

This begins my 10-day countdown. I fully intend to reveal my edges during these days that surround our wedding. It's honestly cool to me that it's enough of an "event" that i can even stress about it. I invisioned, and was totally accepting of, a wedding in the court.
The beauty is in the marriage, not the event right? But I always detested marriage in the past (before children came into the picture) for the whole legal aspect of it...so why was I so all-of-the-sudden okay to dump my free-thinking? Why was the show-up-sign-papers-and-contracts okay by me?!
Now it's a total turn around. I'm getting this dream wedding with a dream guy and I am very much all about the BIG DAY! It doesn't take away from what is really going on...I think having that day you two will always remember together is mind-blowingly awesome! and when you get to pick the close people to share that with, many wonderful ideas and thoughts and wishes become knitted together to blanket your start of a new life with that person.

On the to-do list today: Shop for the wedding band that will pay tribute to the beautiful 1930's art deco filigree engagement ring! Picture to post soon! We will return to the antique boutique that he found the first....they had 2 greats from the same time-period that looked amazing with it. Anything modern puts this piece to shame, we just can't!

See you all tomorrow!

For Dana

Is anyone curious to see if I've broken down?! Well I have NOT, thank goodness. I am actually doing okay. Yesterdays doctor appointment helped me. Hearing that I'm healthy and that my blood pressure was "really really good" helped soothe me. In the height of all this stress and my imminent to-do list and the scores of decisions still to be made, i even started to stress about my stress levels! I thought I could be upsetting the baby with all my worry of getting things done on time.
So to get a report from my doctor and the radiologists that MY SON and I are doing great was the turning event!

Ha! Did I just say MY SON?! Yes it's a boy! Marvel at the beautiful pictures of him so completely cozy inside of his momma-made home! He's beautiful, just like his daddy! One little Boy for team-cleveland!

We are thrilled! But Kiran was not so tickled. The same 2 year old Kiran that insisted all along that this was a baby brother..that Momma was not growing a little girl, but rather a boy for her. When she got the news she seemed excited - or at least pleased that she had been right all along. But when Daddy picked her up from school it was another story. The regression kicked in as he peeked through the door at 4 O'Clock to find her standing there, back to the door, pee dripping down her leg. She was motionless. Moments later that was being dealt with and he tried to include her once more, "Kiran, what did momma tell you on the phone when she called today?!"
"That she loved me"
"Yeah? What else?"
Frown turns to pout turns to sob turns to real tears....
"Daddy....I want a baby sister".

You can't change this girls mind too easily. You just can't. My response to all of this, however: elated! I am just glad she has an opinion on it all. That means she's mulling it over in her mind! And I'm glad she really knew what was said to her.

Maybe she'll come around!

Well, off the baby topic and back on to the bells and whistles of my wedding that takes place in 11 days! I am feeling ready! Okay, I think I am. I find out of my gown alterations fit my belly in two days, and there is a start. We give final figures and checks away to rockefeller in our meeting on Friday. This meeting is one of the most important as far as sparing my sanity. We get to discuss timing, smaller details, coordination, the band set-up, etc! Thesse are the things I have so desparately wanted to nail down in my mind since I became engaged on September 29th! Man, they sure make you wait!
And after that, we will go apply for a marriage license. Now, just the whole thought of "application" makes me think I could be denied. Am I fit to be a wife? No one asked me if I was fit to be a mother when I became pregnant with Kiran! (however, all of my loving friends and family had a suprising over-confidence the MOMENT they found out!!!) Is there an interview process?! "Mam, have you been faithful in your past relationships?" "And Sir, are your intentions to be a devoted husband and father? Will you make it through all of her moodswings?"

Okay, maybe all that qualifies for being irrational. I'll stop there. I JUST KNOW I'LL PASS THIS TEST!

Please do enjoy the pictures of my son. begin a name-poll in the comments section if you like! And further, spend the next 10 days checking in for my countdown. I will no longer be a CRUZ! But hey, I'm moving up in the alphabet and gaining a LOT of beautiful people in family!

14 Day Count Down!

I feel like I should try to make at least one post a day starting now...just for satisfaction later when I can prove just how calm I stayed throughout the "Bride-to-be" process!

At least I think I'll stay calm...
I will abstain from using all CAPS.
I will abstain from phrases like, "Oh NO!" and "My goodness!"
I will abstain from pity parties at home!
I will abstain from food binges, even though I am pregnant!

So, here with 14 days to go I just made a quicky to-do list. Quicky meaning not covering EVERY tiny little detail but still hitting highlights. The list topped off at 40! Impressive. (breathe).

I remember having those days where I felt like everything would just be okay if I could fit my pregnant belly into my amazing gown; if that worked out, all would be dreamy. It seems more and more like that will work out just fine. Why did the jitters that I rejected from day 1 still creep up?!
Maybe it really was just because I was so far away from home all week, feeling utterly helpless with getting started on my 40+ list. Or maybe it's because I still don't even have earrings or complete vows!

the "do" for the "I do"

Tomorrow it's time to start playing around with hair styles with ashley. do i go full-flapper feminine or just a modern mixture of texture and shape?
